There is a deafening silence from the Health and Safety Executive about the deplorable state of icy pavements and country roads.
People literally risked life and limb trying to negotiate the deadly conditions and elderly people were forced to stay at home. The county council advised a philanthropic farmer to stop voluntarily clearing the roads with his snowplough in our village because he did not have a licence. We are becoming hidebound with ridiculous rules and regulations and miles of red tape.
