A modern day fairy tale featuring a child-eating witch is to be filmed in Oxford this weekend.
Witch Way? is the work of young film makers with learning and physical difficulties, assisted by Oxford director Vicky Jewson, whose debut film Lady Godiva premiered in Oxford last January ahead of its national release.
She has been sharing her experience with a group of 15 people aged between 13 and 20, from charity Parasol, in Northway, which works to include young disabled people into everyday activities.
The project started in November, and since then Miss Jewson, co-director Rupert Whitaker and the group from Parasol have come up with an idea for the film, scripted it and, on Monday, auditioned actors at the Fusion Arts Centre in East Oxford.
Miss Jewson, 22, said she wanted the film to change the way disability was seen by the film industry.
She added: “We want to avoid the banner of a ‘disabled’ film because the project is about inclusion.
“We have a group of incredibly bright and talented young people working on this project.”
The film is about a witch who owns a man-eating bed-and-breakfast in woods near Sunningwell.
