Due to a combination of overnight snow, low temperatures and flooding after yesterday's thaw, traffic and public transport services across Oxfordshire are expected to be disrupted during this morning's rush-hour.

Drivers are advised to take extra care on the roads and public transport operators are asking passengers to check whether services are running before setting out from home, especially in rural areas.

Driving conditions on the M40 north of Banbury are reported to be treacherous, due to snow on the carriageways, and the A44 Oxford-Chipping Norton-Worcester road has been closed at Fish Hill, near Broadway in Worcestershire, since mid-evening yesterday, again because of snow. The A4130 is closed at Brightwell-cum-Sotwell by flooding.

A number of First Great Western rail routes from Oxfordshire were already affected last night by flooding further afield, including at Swindon and between Worcester and Hereford, and Network Rail staff were monitoring heavy snowfall overnight along the Cotswold Line between Oxford and Worcester before deciding whether trains could run.

In addition, CrossCountry trains from Banbury and Oxford are not running between Southampton and Bournemouth, due to flooding at New Milton.
