The Oxford Council of Faiths has made its feelings clear about the closure of Magdalen Bridge for May Day.
Police, city and county council staff, as well as paramedics, have worked together to close the bridge on May 1 for the annual celebration since 40 people hurt themselves jumping in 2005.
But the council’s members claim the brief closure ostracises an important part of the city – and communities – from the festivities.
Is this not something of an over-reaction?
Especially as there are plans for events on the east side of the bridge this year.
Until revellers can contain themselves and not risk their lives by leaping into the river, the authorities will probably keep the bridge closed.
