Singers of all ages and abilities found a common voice to help some of the city’s troubled youngsters.
More than 200 amateur choristers performed in a choral concert at the Sheldonian Theatre, in Broad Street, Oxford, yesterday in aid of The Art Room. It was the fourth time the Come and Sing event had been held in the city and this year it attracted rookie singers alongside dozens of sopranos, altos, basses and tenors.
Rehearsals were held throughout the day with conductor Robert Dean and the Oxford Sinfonia Orchestra, ready for the concert, which included solo performances, in the evening.
Volunteer singers donated a fee to take part and organisers hope the concert raised more than £7,000. The money will go towards helping The Art Room, at Oxford School, in Glanville Road, which helps pupils experiencing difficulties at school.
