One year on and there can be no better example of the importance of the Oxford Mail’s Save a Life Campaign than today’s story.
In the past 12 months, 81 people from Oxfordshire have pledged to become organ donors every week, because of our transplant push.
It means some 206,360 people across the county are now on the UK Organ Donor Register.
Today we feature the amazing story of Lori Smith, given the gift of life by toddler Kailin Tucker, who died in his grandmother’s garden pond.
The tragedy of a life lost at such a young age meant relief to another family, thanks to an organ from the 16-month-old.
Mrs Smith, 35, suffered kidney failure after drinking contaminated water in Tunisia seven years ago and would be facing a bleak future without a donor.
But there are still hundreds of others who need your help.
The effort to get more people on the register does not end today – this is just the start.
