The snow in Oxfordshire will keep on falling for the next few hours, according to Met Office weather experts.
The forecast is bad news for drivers already experiencing treacherous driving conditions on the county’s roads.
There have been a series of accidents across the county this morning, with vehicles skidding or getting stuck in the snow as drivers struggle in to work.
Highways Agency staff are using snowploughs and gritters in a bid to keep the major routes clear and safe, but the A34 has closed in both directions between the Marcham and Milton interchanges near Abingdon.
Helen Chivers, a spokesman for the Met Office, said: “The snow will keep falling steadily for the rest of the morning, but will peter out at some point this afternoon, and will turn into a mixture of rain, sleet and snow.
“Overnight there will be temperatures of -5 degrees C, and there will be a very icy start to Saturday morning.
“It will probably not snow on Saturday, when there will be the odd sleety shower with some sunshine.
“Sunday will be more problematic, with another weather system coming in from the west.
“There will be a sunny start to Sunday in Oxfordshire but then a wintry mix will follow and that could include some snow, particularly in the north of the county around Banbury.
“Monday and Tuesday will remain cold, with a further chance of more snow, but there is an equal chance it could be rain.”
