Batten down the hatches: More snow may be on the way. The Met Office says sleet could turn into more of the white stuff today. Some will jump for joy, others curse their luck.
But, on the whole, most agree it is all good fun — children are off school, parks and gardens look a real picture and everyone is talking about it.
But with the snow came the inevitable chaos.
Trains and bus services were severely disrupted and car travel was made difficult by treacherous road conditions.
Hats off, then, to the unsung council heroes who kept the majority of our roads and footpaths clear. We owe them our thanks.
The older generation may well wonder what the fuss is about.
Snow was once a fairly common occurence, but these days it is largely an unexpected treat, though normally, all we seem to hear about is horror stories about global warming.
But yesterday nothing could be further from the minds of those making snowmen in Bury Knowle Park, sledging in South Park or walking hand-in-hand through Christ Church Meadow.
So let’s make the most of the snow — while it lasts.
