The heavy snowfall is causing dangerous conditions for drivers this morning with a series of accidents affecting Oxfordshire’s roads.

About five inches of snow fell overnight in Oxfordshire, which left many drivers facing a difficult journey into work.

The A420 is blocked near the Botley interchange after a lorry jack-knifed, and a second lorry has jack-knifed on the A420 at Kingston Bagpuize.

Drivers on the A361 at Burford are also suffering delays due to an accident.

Paul Wilson, a spokesman for the county council’s gritting team, said: “We have undertaken lots of salting prior to the snow.

“The priority has been clearing the A and B roads, and we are doing all we can to keep the major routes open.”

Ian Hudspeth, the council’s cabinet member for transport, added: “Snowploughs and gritters have been out throughout the night to ensure that the roads are kept clear.

“When you get onto the roads, do not rush because that is when accidents happen.”

A spokesman for the Highways Agency asked drivers to delay their journeys for a few hours if possible.
