It is as if BBC bosses were determined to give us a taste of what will soon be no more – thanks, or rather no thanks, to them – as they set about the planning of this week’s series of Today programmes.
The first few days of the week brought a ‘match made in heaven’ on Radio 4’s flagship news programme in the pairing of John Humphrys and Edward Stourton.
The decision to sack the polite and intelligent Stourton was clearly shown to be the insanity it is as his good manners and charm provided the perfect balance to the grumpy, more belligerent yet always endearing style of Mr Humphrys.
If somebody has to go to make way for Justin Webb on the team (and does anybody?) let it please be the tediously prolix Jim Naughtie or the giggling schoolgirl Sarah Montague.
