Sir – How delighted I am to see that Exeter College has at last decided to honour my old tutor John Percy Vyvian Dacre Balsdon, by a life-size statue on top of the building for which he was responsible (Report, January 29).
He was indeed inordinately proud of having put up what others regarded as the first, the ugliest, the most expensive and the worst constructed building in post-war Oxford; and as a devotee (Dear Boy) of Parson’s Pleasure he would have been delighted to be portrayed stark-naked, diving off the Balsdon Plinth.
