Cowley Road is to finally get CCTV today, fully 15 years after advocates first raised the idea.
After years of campaigning, cameras - on the corners of Southfield Road, Manzil Way and Princes Street - will be switched on at 1pm.
The cameras, costing £40,000, will be managed by Thames Valley Police.
City councillor Saj Malik, executive member for community safety, said: "These cameras will assist in tackling alcohol-realated anti-social behaviour, drug misuse and dealing."
The cameras, which will be able to rotate 360 degrees, will cover Cowley Road from Temple Street to Howard Road.
