Pauline Mourier (Oxford Mail, November 3) implies that if we didn't put the clocks back in the autumn, we could enjoy Greenwich Mean Time all the year round.

But in fact it is the other way round: in the winter we are always on GMT, and it is in the spring when we put our clocks forward that we change to an unnatural time in order to achieve daylight saving.

People who like their light in the evenings need to campaign for British Summer Time all the year round; GMT would make things worse for them.
