Sir – It is heartening to see that some councils want to serve their taxpayers (Letters, October 30).
The Vale of White Horse and South Oxfordshire District Council are joining forces to give their taxpayers a better deal in waste collection, including food waste being collected weekly “to avoid unwanted smells.”
According to councillor Dr Dudley Hoddinott, a member of the councils’ joint waste board, the joint service will be cheaper and respond to people’s individual needs. Perhaps Oxford city rubbish czar John Tanner would like to stop deliberately ignoring the wishes of 70 per cent of the Oxford electorate in wanting weekly food waste collection, join the consortium and give Oxford resident a proper service.
