Sir – We vote for city councillors to represent our interests.

Susanna Pressel, the Lord Mayor, was doing just that when she fought to defend Osney’s willow trees against the chainsaw massacre decreed by the council’s staff.

That she should now be facing possible suspension next week for defending both our trees and our wishes against this folly, is an insult to the electorate, and brings shame on the city.

What other city would allow this to happen to its Lord Mayor?

She had so obviously been doing what we elected her to do: we want a greener and more tree-lined city.
