A thief posing as a shopper grabbed £100 from a till and fled.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the theft from the Co-op store in High Street, Woodstock, at around 6pm yesterday.

He joined the queue for the checkout — but as he paid the cashier he snatched around £100 from the till and ran off.

Police believe he then drove off in an old, dark saloon car.

The thief was described as being in his early 20s, around 5ft 7ins tall, of medium build and with short brown, spiky, wet-look hair.

He was wearing a light brown jumper.

Det Con Paddy O’Grady, from Witney CID, said: “This theft happened at a busy time of day and there were lots of people around in Woodstock.

"Did you see this young man acting suspiciously before or after the theft?

“There was also a dark-coloured car being driven suspiciously at the time - including being driven around Woodstock without its lights on.

"It may or may not be connected to this crime, so if anyone saw this car, or can help us eliminate it from our inquiries, then please get in touch.”
