An Oxford youth club will tomorrow appeal for funding towards a three-year project to promote sports and a healthy lifestyle.
Rose Hill Youth Club, based in The Oval, is seeking £15,000 from three of Oxford City Council’s area committees for the first year of the scheme.
The club, which has more than 300 members, wants to run a weekly programme featuring 22 hours of football, 12 hours of music studio and health drop-in sessions, and eight hours of gym sessions from April.
There are also plans to stage three football tournaments a year.
Youth workers say the project could strengthen the community and improve young people’s self esteem.
The cost of the project is estimated at £165,305 across the three years.
If successful, the club would receive £15,000 a year from the city council and the same amount from the county council, which has agreed to match the funding.
The youth club will then attempt to secure nearly £28,000 from Oxford Safer Communities Partnership, and will apply to the Football Association-backed Football Foundation for a grant of about £107,500.
Under the scheme, the city council’s Cowley, South East and East Oxford area committees would be expected to provide £5,000 each per year.
The south east area committee is expected to be the first to make its decision at Cardinal House in Littlemore tomorrow night.
