The M40 was back up and running this morning following yesterday’s traffic chaos.
THe Highways Agency confirmed both the south and northbound carriageways were operating as normal following a collision between two lorries.
A 46-year-old man was killed in the collision.
An agency spokesman said the southbound carriageway had re-opened shortly before 5pm, while the southbound carriage way was shut until 8.30pm to allow for a clean up operation to take place.
Heavy traffic was reported on both the M4 and the A40, which were being used as diversion routes following the crash.
One of the lorries involved in the crash had been carrying a load of lard, which spread over the area the size of a football pitch.
Strong detergents had to be used to remove the lard from the road’s surface
