Sir — In recent years councillor Keith Mitchell has generally presented himself as the motorists' friend.

Recently he has allowed his fellow councillors to promote a 20mph limit throughout Oxford, and come out in favour of a Paris-style cycle hire scheme and widespread pedestrianisation of the city centre.

When councillor Mitchell was “Worried about the pedestrian experience in Oxford. It is not good” (Report, August 15), I can't but wonder if his geography was confused. Was he looking at pedestrians in Oxford, or was he looking at pedestrians while on the road to Damascus?!
