Cutting anti-social behavior will top the agenda for volunteer police officers throughout next week’s National Specials Week.
Up to November 5, volunteer officers will be stepping up street patrols in a bid to reduce the illegal use of fireworks and celebrate the contribution they make to community policing.
The extra patrols will be part of a week of action throughout the UK and Thames Valley Special Constabulary Chief Officer Nigel Woodley believes it is the perfect demonstration of the work of volunteer officers.
He said: “This year’s theme – tackling anti-social behaviour – couldn’t be timed better.
“The inappropriate use of fireworks can have a real impact on the quality of life for people who live and work in the Thames Valley, particularly those with pets and young families.
“We don’t want to spoil any legitimate fun, but by carrying out extra patrols I want my officers to reduce the illegal use of fireworks throughout Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire and really make their mark.
“I see the week as a particular opportunity to show what a vital role we play in providing support to regular officers when there is particular demand on the force.
“Next week is one of the busiest in the policing calendar and my colleagues and I hope to make a real difference.”
