One of Oxfordshire’s most popular courses, Carswell Golf Club, situated just off the A420 between Oxford and Swindon, covers 156 acres of beautiful undulating wooded countryside, with greens and fairways to keep both members and pay-and-play visitors happy.

It is a challenging 6,528-yard, 18-hole course for both the low handicap and less experienced golfer alike. Even the roughest wet weather is unlikely to stop you playing because of the course’s excellent drainage system.

There is also a very good practice area and driving range.

Carswell has a new head PGA golf professional — John Strode, who is proving to be very popular. John teaches aspiring golfers at all levels, from juniors to seniors, both members and non-members.

John works with the Young Masters Golf Scheme, which not only teaches the child the golf swing, but also gets them ready for the golfing environment and includes basic rules and etiquettes.

John also has a vast knowledge of golf coaching and has worked with some world renowned coaches, which allows him to help golfers of all abilities with their game.

For more information on John’s lessons and coaching sessions you can call him direct on 01367 870505. When John is not teaching, you can find him in the well-stocked pro shop.

The golf club is also working towards a Golf Mark Award. This is a national scheme that identifies and recognises junior and beginner friendly golf facilities, especially involving coaching, playing, getting used to a club environment and child protection.

There is currently a membership of 500 and its worth noting that Carswell does not have a joining fee. There are various membership options available from five to seven-day, junior and joint.

The clubhouse is run by Julian Heber-Smith, along with his brother Lucien, and in addition to the regular golf and social activities, they host many private and business events.

These range from breakfast seminars, wedding receptions, family celebrations, jazz nights and, of course, the ever-popular Sunday carvery.

The clubhouse provides the highest standards of food and service within a relaxed atmosphere, making it an ideal venue whatever the occasion, and you can be assured of a warm, professional welcome. Christmas bookings are now being taken on 01367 870909.

A new addition to Carswell is Woods Hair, opened 18 months ago. Having a hair salon in such a picturesque and convenient location has proved a real hit and the salon has recently expanded.

The experienced and friendly team now includes Yvonne Phillips and Kirsty Carpenter.

Yvonne previously worked in Wantage and Kirsty was based in Witney. To book an appointment, call 01367 870990 or visit the website: www.woodshair.co.uk You will also receive 20 per cent off your first appointment with Yvonne or Kirsty if you mention this publication.

The other attraction at Carswell is the gym. Whether you want to lose weight, train for a specific goal, or for health reasons, the gym meets everyone’s needs.

It has up-to-date equipment, complementary therapies and a team of highly-qualified and understanding personal trainers.

Their main aim is to help you enjoy your workout and to allow you to exercise in a place where friendliness and a genuine care for clients is top priority. If you would like further information, please call 01367 870837 or visit the website: www.itscrunchtime.co.uk
