New Zealand wines are known for their wonderful purity of fruit which shines through beautifully in this selection of superbly crafted examples from both the southern and northern islands.

At this level, the wines deliver superbly concentrated fruit and have wonderfully complex flavours. Great wines from a clean, green land.

The New Zealand’s finest mixed case costs £137 and includes three bottles each of the following four wines.

Esk Valley Pinot Gris 2006, Hawkes Bay: Pinot Gris is following hard on the heels of Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand and the popular style made here is more akin to the wines from Alsace than Italian Pinot Grigio. This is an unusually good example — gorgeous, crisply fruity and refreshing wine.

Zephyr Sauvignon Blanc 2007, Marlborough: ". . . but if I had to choose just one Kiwi Sauvignon, at the moment, it would be the harmonious, beautifully balanced 2007 Zephyr Wines Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough . . .''

Recommended by Tim Atkin MW, The Observer.

Escarpment Pinot Noir 2007, Martinborough: Martinborough remains the established home of Pinot Noir in New Zealand. Just across from Marlborough on the North Island, this area produces superb Burgundian-styled wines that are truly delicious and Escarpment produces one of the best examples. This wine is ultra smooth and velvety, with lovely strawberry fruit.

Te Mata Woodthorpe Estate Merlot/Cabernet 2005, Hawkes Bay: Produced by the legendary John Buck, Woodthorpe is an expansive single vineyard on elevated river terraces which are angled to the sun. This traditional blend of Bordeaux grape varieties shows ripe blackcurrant, plum and delicious chocolate flavours with a supple and sustained palate. Seriously good wine.
