It's enough to make you scream...

The Oxford Mail is putting on a horror-themed late-night Halloween film festival, which is free for students (so long as you have a valid student card and a copy of that day's Oxford Mail — and don't worry, we'll have plenty there in case you forget). It also Includes a free beer or glass of wine and free introductory Student Membership to the Phoenix Picturehouse cinema, and a bar that stays open until way beyond the 'witching' hour!

Starting on Monday, at the spooky hour of 11.30pm, Creep Show, Oxford's very first week-long scare-fest, launches at the Phoenix Picturehouse, in Walton Street, Jericho, with a big screen presentation of the classic horror chiller An American Werewolf in London.

The festival then continues with screenings of: Dawn of The Dead (nasty, real nasty) on Tuesday Rosemary's Baby (creepy as Hell) on Wednesday The Shining ("Here's Johnny....") next Thursday O A Halloween double bill of Friday The 13 and Halloween (slasher heaven) on Friday, October 31 A Saturday double bill of Psycho — Hitchcock's original — and The Thing (as gooey and messy as it gets) on Saturday, November 1.

Naturally, all the films have 18 certificates, but it won’t be all horror and frights. There'll be prizes for the best fancy dress and the chance to get together with friends to scream and wet your pants with fright — it’s all about audience participation.

And, of course, on the big screen, sitting in the dark, that delicious thrill of fear is tripled.

Suzy Sheriff, manager of the Phoenix Picturehouse, said: "Is there really anything better than getting together during Halloween week to enjoy a little cinematic trick-or-treating? Especially when each of these films is so enjoyably scary.

"Plus, we've deliberately put the films on late to add to the atmosphere.

"And we've tried to make it as student-friendly as possible — it's free, so long as you have a copy of that day's Oxford Mail, the first drink's on us, and the bar is open. Halloween heaven."
