A well-known scaffolder from Didcot, whose body was found slumped in a pub toilet, could have died from a drugs overdose, his widow believes.

Former heroin addict Aron Field, who worked at Didcot Power Station, was found dead at Broadways pub, Didcot, last Friday.

Kerry Field believes her 27-year-old husband may have died from an accidental drug overdose, although an inquest into his death has yet to open.

She fought back tears as she paid tribute to the "love of my life". She described him as a loving family man and devoted step-father to her ten-year-old son, Kailum, and their daughter, Leah, six.

The pair, from Kynaston Road, Didcot, had known each other for seven years, but married just two months ago at Abingdon's Guildhall.

Mrs Field said: "I'm just so heartbroken. I don't know what I'm going to do without him.

"I'm angry with him, because he's left me on my own with the kids. But at the same time, I forgive him. He was my life and he was my world. The kids just idolised him so much. We were going to be so happy.

"When I met him, he was a heroin addict and I just wanted to help him.

"He got himself into rehab and he relapsed when he came out, but my mother's partner got him a really well paid job at the power station and he got clean.

"He had been clean for four years.

"We had so much hope for him; he was getting his life back on track up until recently.

"When we got married in August, it was the best day of my life.

"It was supposed to be a sign of our commitment to each other, we had been together so long, but to me it was also a way of leaving his drugs and his past in the past."

His mother-in-law, Jackie Day, 54, said: "He was a hard-working family man.

"Anyone who knew him spoke so highly of him.

"They idolised him because he was such a nice bloke. It's such a waste. I loved him like a son."

The former St Birinus School pupil and Arsenal fan leaves his father, Peter Field, of Berinsfield, and brothers, Shawn and Ricky, and sisters, Sophie and Natasha.

Paul French, landlord of Broadways for 17 years, did not want to comment on the details of the incident out of respect for Mr Field's family.

He added: "There was an incident here on Friday night.

"We did everything we could as quickly as we could. It's just one of those things. I'm not even sure of the exact details myself. The police are still making investigations."

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police confirmed a man was found dead in the toilets of Broadways pub at 8.30pm on Friday.

He said: "His death is being treated as unexplained, but it is not thought to be suspicious. There is no cause of death at the moment."

A date has yet to be set for Mr Field's inquest.
