Racing driver, Alice Powell, of Sarsden, joined forces with some of the sport's biggest names to promote all forms of motorsport to a wider audience.

Powell, who finished ninth in the highly-competitive Ginetta Junior Championship, with a number of podium finishes, backed the campaign by having official GoMotorsport.net stickers on her Ginetta Junior Championship Car.

She said: "I'm lucky enough to be fulfilling my dreams but I know there are hundreds of others out there that have little or no idea how to get involved in motor sport.

"It's not the same as buying a football or cricket bat and playing in the park, but getting into motorsport is nowhere near as hard as many imagine and it doesn't have to be prohibitively expensive. There is lots of motorsport in which you can safely compete in your own road car, for instance."

The Go Motorsport campaign launch took place earlier this summer and was attended by Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, along with former Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill; top British Touring Car Championship driver Jason Plato, World Rally Champion Robert Reid and Channel 5's Fifth Gear TV presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson.

The campaign has been set up by the Motor Sports Association (MSA), governing body of motorsport in the UK, to help guide people into getting involved in motor sport, be it as a competitor, spectator or volunteer.

The accompanying GoMotorsport.net website provides full details on how newcomers can compete in all the various disciplines, including less high-profile activities such as autotests and hillclimbs as well as circuit racing and rallying. It also includes information on the 5,000 motorsport events taking place throughout the country every year and explains how enthusiasts can further their passion by becoming a marshal or official.
