I wryly observed the spirited attack by Witney Conservatives on Oxford's rubbish collections (Oxford Mail, October 11).
Perhaps they should get their own house in order first before they preach to Oxford City Council.
West Oxfordshire Council has managed to lose a mere £9m of its funds in Icelandic banks, which will undoubtedly put an end to its own refuse plans.
This is ironic since the Conservative conference speech promised to freeze council tax — now it is the council's assets that are frozen!
Even as the Icelandic chill was blowing our way, with its obvious implications for councils, Shadow Chancellor George Osborne chose to woo his voters with a promise to freeze council tax.
I thought it sounded all wrong when I heard it.
The Conservatives clearly have a weak grip on financial issues.
In the current economic climate, it does not make sense to reintroduce weekly refuse collections and therefore Oxford City Council has made the correct decision.
