A former Oxford United goalkeeper who was found dead in bushes in Manchester committed suicide, an inquest has heard.
Tim Carter, who played 17 times for United during the 1995/96 season, had been going through a "difficult time" following the birth of his son, who had cerebral palsy, the inquest was told.
His body was found near a layby in Stretford on June 19 after he had flown back early from a family holiday in Majorca following a "domestic incident". He had hanged himself.
His brother, Stephen Carter, told the inquest the deceased had struggled to come to terms with his son's disability.
He said: "He found it very difficult. What Tim wanted was a son to follow in his footsteps."
South Manchester deputy coroner Joanne Kearsley recorded a verdict that he took his own life.
