Radio and TV presenter Paul Gambaccini has been named Oxford University's News International Visiting Professor of Broadcast Media.
The professorship is associated with the English Faculty and Green Templeton College.
Mr Gambaccini read history at Dartmouth College followed by politics, philosophy and economics at University College.
He will be giving lectures on the history and future of music in the media.
It follows the appointment of Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey as Cameron Mackintosh Visiting Professor of Contemporary Theatre.
