We hope there will not be a repeat of the protests and anger that ensued the last time Muslim Prof Amina Wadud led Islamic prayers.
Tomorrow, she is due to lead prayers at the Muslim Education Centre of Oxford. It is thought to be the first time in the UK that a woman has been allowed to act as imam to a mixed congregation.
We salute the bravery of Meco in bringing Prof Wadud from America as part of its two-day conference on Islam and feminism.
Those who want to protest should do so with restraint.
