Sir — We are delighted to read the praise from some of our patients in your letters pages from Martin Sheldon (October 3) and Jill Esnouf (October 10).

It really is most encouraging for all of us, particularly as we have been working very hard to develop an easily-accessible and friendly ‘one-stop’ service for our patients in the last few years.

For example I think we are unique in Oxford in being able to provide NHS dentistry, physiotherapy, podiatry and counselling on site; as well as the full range of usual GP services.

We have also just started providing evening and Saturday surgeries for those patients who find it difficult to come during the working week, and the dental service is expanding into a state-of-the-art new building on site.

As part of these efforts to make our service more convenient for our patients we have negotiated for the pharmacy on Windmill Road to move on to our site.

This has caused some confusion because, when it moved, the pharmacy also changed its name. On Windmill Road it was owned by Alliance (which was taken over by Boots) and before that Hornby’s and then Moss.

However, we can reassure all our patients that the pharmacy service is the same as before, and the range of other services potentially better, just in a different and hopefully more convenient situation.

Most importantly, all of our patients remain completely free to use whichever pharmacist they wish. This will not change.

The staff at the practice will continue to arrange for prescriptions to be dispensed wherever the patients prefer. We will all continue to support the other local pharmacies, which provide an essential service and continue to do a fantastic job in helping care for patients in the city.
