The debate over two proposed solutions to Witney's traffic problems was thrown open to residents last week.

An exhibition on the £15m Cogges Link Road, which the county council says will ease congestion in Bridge Street, was held at the Marlborough Hotel.

At the Corn Exchange, a group of landowners and developers who are against the expensive scheme, also held a display.

The Mawle Trustees, former farmers in the Witney area and part of the East Witney Land Consortium, booked the venue at the same time so the public could compare the council scheme with their rival Shores Green option, which they say could cost as little as £3m.

The Cogges Link Road would join Witan Way at the Sainsbury's roundabout, with Oxford Hill and Jubilee Way, cutting across the river Windrush.

The Shores Green idea would convert the eastern junction on the A40 Witney bypass from a two-way to a four-way exit.

The council will make a decision next year.
