An elderly man was killed and two other motorists remain seriously ill in hospital after a four-vehicle pile-up.
The man in his 80s, who has not been named, was driving a red Volkswagen along Bletchingdon Road from Islip towards the A34 shortly after 10am yesterday when the accident happened. Police said the Golf, a black Ford Mondeo, a Vauxhall Vivaro van and a grey Rover were involved in the crash.
The pensioner died at the scene while his female passenger was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital by air ambulance in a critical condition. The driver of the van was also in hospital last night in a serious condition.
Police closed the road between Islip and the junction with the A34 while investigators examined the scene and removed the wreckage, which was spread over 300 yards.
The driver and three passengers in the Ford Mondeo received only minor injuries and did not need hospital treatment.
Witnesses are urged to call police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
