Actors Edward Fox and Hannah Gordon will take part in a fundraising carol concert for Oxford's Children's Hospital.

Two years ago a similar concert at Dorchester Abbey featured readings from singer Jason Donovan, impressionist Rory Bremner, and radio presenters Ann Atkins and Sue Lawley, with carol singing from the choir of New College, Oxford.

There were 700 people in the congregation, and the committee which organised the 2006 event is now planning another concert for Friday, December 12.

This year, Mr Fox and Ms Gordon will give readings with fellow actress Geraldine James and Sir Hugo Brunner, Oxfordshire's former Lord Lieutenant.

Sir Hugo said: "The fundraising campaign for the children's hospital has been highly successful and I am delighted that the work is continuing for such a good cause. I was heavily involved in the restoration of the abbey and I can't think of a better place to host this kind of event."

In 2006, the committee, chaired by Nigel Talbot Rice, formerly headmaster of Summer Fields School, raised more than £55,000 from the concert towards the £15m Chox campaign.

Building on this success, a Fund for Children has been established to enable the children’s hospital to provide enhanced services and equipment beyond what the NHS can supply.

The 2008 Dorchester Abbey concert is the first major event to raise money for the fund.

Mr Talbot Rice said: "The committee and I are pleased to continue to support the children’s hospital. "We are delighted to have secured some wonderful readers and a performance by the Choir of Westminster Abbey."

Tickets are now on sale. They cost £25, £40, £50 and £75 and include a wine and canapés reception.
