Despite being next door to each other, Spain and Portugal produce very different wines from very different grape varieties.
Whilst Spain traditionally favours rather lighter styles with more age, Portugal makes relatively young, full-bodied wines, sometimes from the same grape varieties used to make Port.

The Iberian peninsula mixed case costs £77 and includes three bottles each of the following four wines Vale da Clara Blanco 2006, Douro, Portugal: Made by the Bergqvist family at their beautiful eatate in the heart of the Douro. This excellent table wine is made from a mixture of local grape varieties and sends layers of complex tropical fruit coursing around your tongue. Top class wine.
Erumir 2005, Penedes, Spain: Well poised, minerally and delightfully crisp white made from an interesting blend of grape varieties, including macabeo, riesling and sauvignon. Very refreshing style.
Quinta do Correio 2006, Dao, Portugal: A good example of modern Portuguese winemaking, this is an upfront, fruit driven style made from a mixture of various grape varieties from the Dao region including the touriga nacional.
Castillo de Manzanares Tempranillo Reserva 2001, La Mancha, Spain: Made from 100 per cent tempranillo, this wine has complex flavours of raspberries, cherries and vanilla. It has been aged in bottle and oak for three years and is now ready to drink.
