Bare-knuckle fighter Paddy Monaghan returned to Abingdon to sign copies of his latest book.
The fighter moved to Saxton Road when he was five and brought up his family in the same street.
Mr Monaghan signed copies of his autobiography, Street Fighting Man, at Mostly Books, in Stert Street then visited the town's amateur boxing club he helped set up at Preston Road Community Centre.
The champion, who won 114 fights in his 30-year career, is known for striking up an extraordinary friendship with boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
He launched a one-man protest campaign after Ali was stripped of his boxing licence in 1967 for refusing to be drafted to serve in the Vietnam War.
Mr Monaghan, 64, now lives in Ireland.
