Children had a chance to visit different countries — all within the four walls of Abingdon's Guildhall.
On Friday, secondary and primary school pupils gathered to celebrate the European Day of Languages.
The event was organised by language teachers in the Abingdon Partnership and run by children from schools in Abingdon and nearby villages. A variety of stalls were held by pupils, which were each based on a different country.
Visiting children then made their way from stall to stall, taking part in activities and learning new languages.
They each held a passport, which they completed as they moved from country to country, and enjoyed a range of performances on the stage from participating schools.
Louise O’Hara, primary languages coordinator at Rush Common School, helped to organise the event and brought along pupils from the school.
She said: "It was excellent, it went really well. We had over 1,000 children either visiting or involved in the stalls.
"It was the first time we have ever done something like this so we were really pleased with the outcome and hope to do it next year.
"There were lots of stalls with activities, such as making things using a foreign language, and some of the stalls taught children songs."
