A thief conned a good samaritan into putting him up for the night — then ransacked his home and stole £1,000 in cash.
A man spent Saturday evening drinking with the burglar in The White Hart and The Crispin pub in Harwell.
He said he had been camping in Sutton Courtenay but claimed his tent had broken, so the man invited him back to his house at Didcot Road, in Harwell, to stay on his sofa.
In the morning the householder woke up and found the man had gone, stealing his debit card, £1,000 in cash and some cheques.
Police described the burglar as scruffy with long brown hair, parted in the middle, and unshaven.
He was carrying a large ruck-sack and is thought to be Bulgarian.
