Lewes manager Kevin Keehan said he believed the little Sussex outfit could now achieve their dream and finish fifth from bottom to avoid relegation, writes JON MURRAY.

Keehan, who had been given a vote of confidence at the start of the week, said he was "ecstatic" after the Rooks came from behind to beat Oxford 2-1 and record their first win of the season.

He enthused: "I'm ecstatic, not just for me but for my family. And for the fans here. They needed a lift. It's been difficult for them. They'd had a load of success and then, with all the changes, their moment of glory had effectively been taken away from them.

"I felt I could do this job and have grabbed it with both hands. But for a couple of minutes at Histon, we'd have had six points from this week.

"I said before Tuesday that the rot had to stop, and I feel confident we have stopped it. It's about being competitive because at Rushden we gave away four soft goals from corners and that had to stop.

"We've got some good players but confidence is a big thing, and I'd brought in a lot of young players, who have a lot of ability, from lower leagues. We needed that extra bit of quality and experience and the couple of Brighton lads have helped us a lot.

"Sam Gargan's been great for us. If we play like that we are very capable of finishing the season fifth from bottom, and that was always the target. This is something to build on."
