Police have today confirmed that a weapon was used by a pensioner in an attack on his wife.
An 80-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident at an address in in Stratford Road, Drayton, near Banbury.
He called police at around 10am to admit he had attacked his wife, who is aged in her 70s.
Police have declined to reveal what weapon was used.
She was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with serious head injuries and remains under supervision in a stable condition, police confirmed this afternoon.
Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
Her husband remains detained under the Mental Health Act.
