I think the award for shameless tight-fistedness in 2008 must be the Paul O'Grady show on Channel Four.
I wrote to the show during the last series, asking for a nodding Buster for the new cancer centre's appeal at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford, only to receive a reply: "Sorry, we cannot afford it".
In the light of the phone-in scams, it was a pathetic excuse.
