THE Quakers in Witney are celebrating a national week for their faith with an open day, art exhibition, music, and a special display at an antiques shop.
The group meets at the Scout hall in Marlborough Lane, a venue with disabled access, and is holding its open day there on Sunday, October 12, 10.30am to 4.30pm.
The morning worship will be followed by lunch, and in the afternoon, visitors can see art produced by local Quakers, as well as music and songs.
From October 4 to 18, Witney Antiques, at 96-100 Corn Street, is staging a historical exhibition of embroidered samplers produced by Quaker school girls. Entry is free.
The Quakers once had a strong presence in Witney, but meetings were discontinued when membership declined, with the former meeting house, at The Hill, Wood Green, converted into housing in 1980.
The revival began in the 1990s, and meetings are now held every Sunday.
