Consistently judged by Ofsted as outstanding, the early years at Rye St Antony School give a secure, supportive and stimulating environment in which pupils are nurtured and valued and helped to become enthusiastic, confident and independent learners.
Then throughout the junior years, specialist teaching is introduced, until by Year 5 most lessons are taught in subject-based teaching areas by specialist teachers.
The focus is on each pupil as an individual, and the aim is to develop bright and enquiring minds, able to think rationally, creatively and independently, in young people who are being encouraged to grow steadily in their understanding of themselves and others.
Each pupil's programme is carefully monitored to the pupil's individual strengths and needs.
In the senior school, stimulating specialist teaching across a broad curriculum encourages curiosity, questioning and investigation and a zest for intellectual exploration and discovery.
Girls value the opportunity for discussion and research, in and outside lessons, and at all stages they are helped to be actively engaged in their learning and able to move easily, between learning with others and learning independently.
English, mathematics and the sciences are included within each girl's individual programme.
French, Spanish and Latin are offered to everyone, and are popular choices at GCSE, AS and A-Level, as are art and design, drama and music, subjects which are components of the main curriculum and also prominent in the extra-curricular programme.
Religious education, sport, ICT, history, geography and home economics are further components of the main curriculum and available also within the GCSE, AS and A-Level programme.
Thus girls study 16 or so subjects in the first years if senior school before coming to focus on 10 or so GCSE subjects and then four or five AS/A-Level subjects, these choices drawn from 20+ GCSE options and 20+ AS/A-Level options.
Sixth Form brings two important years to consolidate and complete school studies and prepare for university and the responsibilities and leadership roles of the future.
The integration of the Sixth Form Centre within the Sixth Form boarding house enables day girls and boarders alike to benefit from the boarding culture and its scope for developing the interpersonal skills and the understanding of self and others - strengths, weaknesses and potential – on which future successes will depend.
At Rye St Antony a study programme centred on four or five AS/A-Level subjects gives scope for serious intellectual engagement and the opportunity to secure the foundations and open the lines of enquiry for the university studies to follow.
The Sixth Form programme also incorporates a general programme comprising options in ethics and philosophy, sport, community service and preparation for university.
Each girl’s personal tutor and the team of Sixth Form advisers will help with the co-ordination and monitoring of her study programme, her university applications, her vacation and/or gap year plans and her career plans. The aim is to help each girl complete her school years happy, resilient, wise, keen to embark on the future and keen to make her contribution to the world.
