Primary schools in Oxford have collected valuable computer equipment, thanks to local shoppers spending £1.2m.
Almost 120,000 Computers for Schools vouchers, which are awarded to shoppers at Tesco stores when they spend more than £10, were collected by five primary schools this year.
Pegasus School, in Blackbird Leys, and St Christopher's Church of England School, in Cowley, were handed the goods by Oxford East MP Andrew Smith on Wednesday as part of the annual giveaway by the supermarket chain, which has been running since 1992.
Pegasus School collected 31,854 vouchers — and put them towards a range of IT equipment and a digital camera for staff and pupils to use in art projects.
Head of IT David Watson said: "We have received some brilliant equipment through the vouchers in the past and this year, we have done especially well, so thanks to everyone who collected for us."
Seven-year-old Alfie Sims from Pegasus School said he was looking forward to using the camera at school.
He said: "My favourite subjects are art and maths and we use cameras a lot in our different projects. "We have just done one where we built a miniature forest in the school and the teachers helped us take pictures of it."
Year Six pupil Lydia Price said she was looking forward to seeing the pictures on the plasma screen bought with vouchers last year.
The screen has been used as a digital noticeboard and placed in the front hall so pupils, parents and visitors can see a constantly-changing display of school news and pictures.
St Christopher's CoE School, which collected 17,000 vouchers, will use them for a plasma screen this year and bank the rest for 2009.
Headteacher Alison Holden said: "We have done really well and collected a lot of vouchers, so I want to thank everyone who collected them on our behalf."
Mr Smith said: "When I was at school, we had to just stick things in books, but these schemes are wonderful.
"The kids are given the chance to use and learn about the technology that is a part of every day life."
Windale Community Primary School, St Francis Church of England First School and John Henry Newman Church of England School also bought equipment with the vouchers.
