Bomb disposal experts are searching part of Milton Park, near Didcot, after ammunition was found.
Building contractors discovered thousands of anti-aircraft rounds dating back to the Second World War while excavating the Didcot site on Tuesday afternoon.
A Ministry of Defence spokesman said the site in question was used as an ammunition depot during the war.
A police spokesman said the ammunition was not live and there was no danger to the public.
