A historic discovery has been made in a 15th century almshouse in Abingdon.
Workmen re-roofing the oldest of the 32 almshouses in Long Alley, off St Helen's Wharf, on Tuesday found what are thought to be Victorian accessories in the loft space.
They included two mortarboards, a trilby hat, a shoe and a water container. They have been taken to Abingdon Museum to be dated.
Roof tiler Andrew Steptoe, 37, who works for Bicester Roofing, made the discoveries.
He said: "No one would have been able to get to these for anything between 70 to 100 years, as that’s when the roof last came off."
