Sir — What a great decision not to allow the building of a huge building in Osney Mead that would spoil the wonderful skyline of Oxford.

The planning inspector's report makes good reading — it makes us feel good about our city, waxing lyrical about the beauty of Oxford's surroundings.

But it also draws attention to the way that Newsquest's building compromises the view from the west.

Let's hope that loyal readers continue to support the Oxford Mail and Times — usually it is rather good at campaigning on planning issues — and then perhaps one day they will be able to replace it with something nicer.
