Police have reopened junction 10 on the M40 more than five hours after a serious collision.

A motorist is in hospital with serious injuries after a Land Rover Discovery, an articulated lorry and a tanker collided this at 8.40am this morning.

Drivers have been stuck in traffic jams throughout the area after the crash three quarters of a mile from junction 9 at Bicester.

Police closed junction 10 at Cherwell Valley Services and two lanes of traffic on the southbound stretch.

Two lanes are now open and traffic can now use junction 10.

The third lane is expected to reopen later this afternoon.

The driver of the Land Rover had to be cut free form his vehicle and is now in the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with head injuries.

His condition is described as serious, but not life threatening.

A tanker carrying ash and a lorry loaded with metal were involved in the collision.
