A FUSION of music and food was enjoyed by hundreds of festival-goers at the weekend. Oxford's first Harvest festival was the brainchild of Joe and Robin Bennett, who organise the annual Truck Festival which attracts hundreds of music lovers to Hill Farm in Steventon every July.
The event, which ran on Saturday and Sunday, was held at the Isis Farmhouse pub, on the River Thames towpath at Iffley Lock — a venue which can only be reached on foot, by bicycle or by boat.
The festival coincided with the harvest moon, with the full moon seen lighting up the sky.
Almost 800 people turned out to take in the sounds of 20 bands, including US country-jazz band Hot Club of Cowtown on Saturday, the popular Danny & the Champions of the World, and four-piece folk-pop band The Magic Numbers, who played on Sunday evening, Also entertaining the revellers were eight speakers, who talked on such topics as how to get your own allotment, and the history of beer.
Locally sourced dishes on offer included pork stew, spicy bean and vegetable casserole and pork pies.
The event was the latest Truck Festival spin-off, and followed the hugely succesful Wood Festival held near Wallingford this summer, and the UniTruck indoor event at Oxford Brookes. Joe Bennett said: "It was a roaring success.
"It's similar to the Wood Festival, but right in the city centre. The highlight for me was definitely Hot Club of Cowtown and their marathon two hour set on Saturday night. Everyone was dancing like crazy. It was a real hoe-down."
