An Oxford nurse has successfully completed three charity challenges.

Sam Varney took part in the Oxford Race for Life in June — and a 5km run in Hyde Park, London, and a 5km cycle ride around the Silverstone race track inside two days.

The 21-year-old did the second of her summer 5km runs on September 7, in a target time of 30 minutes.

Miss Varney, of Heyford Road, Caulcott, near Bicester, completed the challenge in aid of Help the Hospices.

She said: "It was a bit muddy but this didn't dampen the spirits of the runners."

Last Tuesday, she entered the Silverstone bike challenge and completed five laps of the race circuit.

Miss Varney, who works at the Churchill Hospital, was riding for Macmillan Cancer Care.

She raised £200 for Cancer Research UK at the Race for Life, and hopes to have raised £100 for the two other charities. The challenges were in memory of her 84-year-old grandmother, Mildred, who died from pneumonia early this year, and her uncles Roy and Basil, who both died recently from prostate cancer.
