A major exhibition of children's art opens this weekend at Modern Art Oxford.
With more than 1,000 artworks filling all five galleries, the MY… exhibition is the county’s largest ever by children and young people. Admission to the exhibition, in Pembroke Street, Oxford, is free.
Working with sculpture, painting, ceramics, film and photography, the young artists took their inspiration from the MY... theme: My… Tree, My… World, My… Rabbit, My… House, My… Street, My… Window, and from international artists and cultural sites such as Blenheim Palace, Cotswold Wildlife Park, Oxford University Harcourt Arboretum and the Cowley Road.
Ten artists led residencies in schools across Oxfordshire.
The year-long MY… project has been a creative partnership between Oxfordshire schools and their international partners, Oxfordshire County Council, Arts Council England South East, cultural sites (Blenheim Palace, Oxford University Harcourt Arboretum, Cowley Road and Cotswold Wildlife Park), professional artists and Modern Art Oxford.
International partners included: Istanbul, Turkey; Baltimore, USA; Kampala, Uganda and Valetta, Malta.
Where it was not possible to display all of the original artwork in the gallery space, artworks and projects can be seen on the MY… website www.oxonart.org The MY… School residency artists were Michael Brennand-Wood, Anne-Marie Cadman, Michael Condron, Andy Fleming, Martin Franklin, Filip Gierlinski, George Mogg, Simon Packard, Graham Woodall, Sarah Worthington.
